Who am I
My name is Dr. Jorge Virchez, I have been active member of the Canadian Studies since 1991. I went to the Biennial Conference of the Chinese Association of Canadian Studies that took place in Harbin I think it was in 1996, and again in 2013.
Dr. Jorge Virchez, Associate Professor. Department of Geography. Laurentian University. 935 Ramsey Lake Road. Sudbury, Ontario. Canada. P3E 2C6. Phone: (705) 675-1151 ext 3359. Fax number: (705) 675-4893.
My date of birth is: 05-December 1957
Every year I give a Scholarship to a Student throughout a center for Canadian Studies. The student has the opportunity to spend three weeks in Sudbury. This is a philanthropic bursary that I created with my own money. I have been giving this bursary since 1997 to centers for Canadian Studies mainly in Latin America, but I could also give it to China for 2015.
I can lecture in three areas:
a) Environmental remediation in Sudbury (From a Landscape that looked as the Moon, to a very beautiful landscape)
b) I can talk of the Aboriginal traditions in Northern Ontario, the sacred fire, the Medicine wheel and the Grand Fathers.
c) I can talk about the Geography of Canada.
d) I can talk about the recovery of a Urban River
Possible effects of the Lecture:
a) I can show how the participation of the community has made possible a tremendous change in the landscape of the municipality of Sudbury.
b) I can present the situation of the aboriginal peoples in Canada and more particularly in Northern Ontario
c) I can explain the complexity of the Canadian geography
d) And finally I can show the techniques that were used for the recovery of a Urban River, these technics could be used for similar cases in China.
Estimated lecture expenses
The cost of the airfaire is depending on the dates but probably between 1,600 to 1,700 Canadian dollars. From Toronto to Hong Kong, then from HK I can take the train (I do not know how much does it cost) If you can pay for my meals and my accommodation (I do not know How much does it cost. You have your own Hotel you have a better idea than me)
